Representing Vujade at the 2026 ATD International Conference & Expo

In May, I had the opportunity to attend the 2026 ATD International Conference & Expo, one of the largest gatherings of talent development professionals in the world. The event brought together thousands of learning, leadership, organizational development, and HR practitioners to explore emerging trends, innovative technologies, and new approaches to developing people and improving organizational performance.

This year's conference was especially meaningful for me because I had the privilege of supporting Vujade during its debut appearance in the ATD Expo Hall. As a long-time practitioner in organizational development, leadership development, and change management, I was excited to help introduce conference attendees to a new approach for understanding human communication and team dynamics.

Vujade was founded on a simple but powerful premise: communication remains one of the most significant barriers to organizational effectiveness. While organizations invest heavily in technology, training, and process improvement, many challenges can still be traced back to misunderstandings, assumptions, and differences in how people process information and interact with one another. Vujade seeks to address this challenge by helping individuals better understand themselves and the people around them, creating stronger collaboration, trust, and workplace relationships.

During the conference, I facilitated discussions with learning leaders, HR professionals, consultants, and organizational development practitioners who stopped by the booth to learn more about the platform. Many were intrigued by Vujade's focus on communication intelligence and its ability to move beyond traditional personality assessments by providing insights into how people experience information, make decisions, and work together. Rather than simply generating self-awareness, the platform is designed to help users build stronger relationships and adapt their communication strategies in real-world situations.

I also shared lessons learned from my own experience using Vujade with a team at NASA. One of the most fascinating discoveries was seeing how highly talented individuals can approach problems in dramatically different ways while still contributing to exceptional outcomes. The experience reinforced a belief I've held throughout my career: diversity of thought is one of an organization's greatest strengths, but only when people understand and appreciate those differences.

What impressed me most throughout the week was the level of curiosity and engagement from conference attendees. Talent development professionals are actively searching for better ways to build trust, improve collaboration, and help teams perform at their highest potential. The conversations at ATD confirmed that communication intelligence is an area receiving increasing attention as organizations navigate hybrid work, distributed teams, and growing workplace complexity.

I'm grateful to the Vujade team for the opportunity to support their introduction to the ATD community and look forward to watching the platform continue to evolve. It was an exciting week of learning, networking, and exploring new possibilities for helping people work better together.

Huntsville and Madison County Chamber of Commerce

Breakfast and Biz

I attended the Breakfast & Biz networking event hosted by the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber at the Burritt Museum last week, and it was a really enjoyable way to start the morning. The setting was relaxed and welcoming, which made it easy to strike up conversations with professionals from across the Huntsville/Madison County business community.

I had several great conversations, made some new connections, and enjoyed catching up on what’s happening locally—all without the pressure of a formal networking environment. And as a bonus, the food was terrific, which always makes early-morning networking a little more fun.

Overall, it was a well-run event that balanced meaningful connection, community, and a great atmosphere, and I’m glad I made the time to attend.

International Maxwell Conference

This August, I had the tremendous honor of attending the International Maxwell Conference in Orlando — an experience that pushed me, inspired me, and left me with renewed clarity about my path forward. It wasn’t just another conference. It was a community of leaders, a classroom of lived experience, and a launchpad for new identity.

Over the course of the event:

  • I joined the Mentorship program, allowing me to grow under proven leaders while learning to guide others.

  • I became a certified Maxwell Leadership Team Member, which deepens my commitment and equips me more formally to serve.

  • I also earned my coach certification, further strengthening my ability to support individuals and teams toward real transformation.

Among the many highlights were the keynote sessions. Hearing from leaders like John C. Maxwell reinforced timeless truths about influence, character, and purpose. Other speakers brought fresh energy and perspectives:

  • Jesse Cole, with his “Fans First / Entertain Always” philosophy, reminded me how innovation and fun are not just extras — they are essential for connection, loyalty, and turning routine into memorable.

  • Tiffani Bova spoke about the synergy between customer experience and employee experience. Her message: sustainable growth comes when we don’t treat “the way we work with people” as separate from “the way people experience our work.”

  • Anthony Trucks introduced powerful ideas around “Dark Work” — the behind-the-scenes discipline, identity shifts, and internal resilience that often don’t get glory but absolutely drive performance.

  • Craig Groeschel, Mark Cole, and Valorie Burton also delivered messages I’m carrying forward: on leading with empathy, influence, and authenticity. All of them brought stories, tools, and conviction that leadership isn’t static — it’s forged in struggle, shaped by community, and sustained by purpose.

What makes all of this more than a memory is how I’m already seeing it foreshadow my next steps. The conversations I had with amazing people from around the world — hearing how they’re overcoming challenges, innovating in unexpected ways, leaning into service — those have become part of my own “why.” I left Orlando not just with more knowledge, but with vibrant inspiration. I’m more committed than ever to helping others grow — whether that’s through mentoring, coaching, or simply walking together in leadership.

Thank you to everyone I met, everyone who spoke, and everyone who believed that leadership is worth showing up for. I can’t wait to carry this forward.

2026 SHRM Conference in San Diego, California

Attending SHRM 2025 was an unforgettable experience—gathering with 14,000 HR professionals from around the world to grow, connect, and lead. I immersed myself in sessions that spoke deeply to both the heart and strategy of our work, including Now is the Time for Introverted HR Professionals, Navigating the Waters of OFCCP Compliance, and Leading While Bleeding, a powerful session on leading through pain. I also gained practical insights on leadership, assessments, neuroscience, and reframing failure to empower teams. One of the biggest highlights? Hearing from Former President Joe Biden and connecting with incredible, like-minded professionals who are just as passionate about building better workplaces. My heart is full and my toolkit is overflowing.
